Volunteers for war.

Not every man was drafted into the war. Over 2 million men volunteered for military service. They believed that they had a duty to respond to their nation's calling. The horrors of war became apparent to them, but their morales remained high to help ensure victory. About 50,000 Americans died in combat and over 200,000 were wounded. Another 60,000 soldiers died from the influenza epidemic of 1918 and 1919.
